SHREVEPORT,
La. - It was a tale of two totally different games Tuesday evening as Texas
Wesleyan split a doubleheader with LSU-Shreveport at Pilot Stadium.
LSU-Shreveport
(31-19) defeated the Rams in game one, 15-0, but Texas Wesleyan (25-24) responded
in game two defeating the Pilots, 12-3.
In
game two, the Rams got off to a hot start, scoring seven runs in the first inning.
Texas Wesleyan banged out eight hits during the inning.
LSU-Shreveport
fought back scoring run in both the second and third innings, but the Rams put
the game out of reach with four more runs in the fourth inning.
Freshman
David Miller (3-1) picked up the victory for the Rams, allowing three runs on
nine hits, while walking one and striking out two batters in 5.2 innings of work.
Senior
Derek Armstrong led the way, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
Sophomore Matt Putman and Travis Clifford both added two RBIs each.
In
game one, it was completely the opposite as the Pilots opened with four runs in
the first inning. They continued to score at will, scoring four runs in the second,
three runs in the third and four more runs in the fourth inning.
Sophomore
Ryan Cowgell (2-3) suffered the loss for the Rams, allowing nine earned runs off
of seven hits, while walking eight and striking out one batter.
Freshman
Drew Jeffcoat led the Rams, going 2-for-3.
Texas
Wesleyan will be back in action Wednesday when they host Howard Payne at LaGrave
Field. The single game is set for 2 p.m.
