Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score
FORT WORTH, Texas - The Texas
Wesleyan softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against
Northwestern Oklahoma State Friday afternoon at Sycamore Park. The
Lady Rams lost game one, 6-3, and dropped the second game, 16-8.
In game one, Lady Ram starting pitcher
Tara Sharp (2-3) threw seven innings allowing six runs on 11 hits
while striking out three batters.
Texas Wesleyan (8-11) started with
an early lead when catcher Amanda Milam connected off Lady Ranger
starting pitcher Katie Bieniek for a home run to left field to lead
off the second inning. After walking rightfielder Maria Morones
and designated player Michelle Perez, senior Kamie Lancaster ripped
a two-out single down the left field line that scored Morones and
Perez to put the Lady Rams up, 3-0.
Northwestern (15-3) cut the lead by
two off of two Lady Ram errors in the third inning. The Lady Rangers
tied the game up on a throwing error by second baseman Danah Merck.
The game was put out of reach in the seventh inning off a couple
of RBI singles and a throwing error by third baseman Becky Lamont.
The Lady Rams only managed five hits
in the game and only two after the second inning off Northwestern
relief pitcher Ashley Taylor.
In game two, Lady Ram starting pitcher
Rachel Lamont (2-2) struggled on the mound. The Springtown, Texas
native, pitched six innings allowing 16 runs on 16 hits while walking
four batters.
Northwestern Oklahoma State took an
early lead knocking in five runs on six hits and was helped out
by a fielding error by Lady Ram shortstop Vanessa Urteaga. The Lady
Rangers increased their lead on a three-run homerun by designated
player Bieniek to put Northwestern up, 8-0 after two innings.
Texas Wesleyan started a comeback
in the bottom of the third inning with two out and one runner on.
Rightfielder Danah Merck's RBI single drove in designated player
Tara Sharp to cut the lead by one. After catcher Amanda Milam walked
to load the bases, first baseman Jennifer Perez lined a RBI single
up the middle to drive in Urteaga. After a hard fought battle at
the plate, leftfielder Rachel Hampton crushed the next pitch off
Lady Ranger starting pitcher Ashley Taylor over the wall in left-center
for a grand slam that cut the lead to 8-6.
Unfortunately that would be the closest
the Lady Rams would get. Three Texas Wesleyan errors in the top
of the fourth inning would ultimately lead to a five runs that put
the game out of reach.
The Lady Rams refused to quit, but
after Merck's single in the bottom of the fourth that drove in two
runners to bring the score to 13-8, Texas Wesleyan could not manufacture
another hit. The game would end by run-rule, 16-8.
The Lady Rams will be back in action
Thursday, March 25th, when they host Howard Payne University. The
doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
