DENTON, Texas - The Texas Wesleyan
softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to NCAA Division
II Texas Woman's University, Tuesday evening at Pioneer Field. The
Lady Rams dropped game one, 11-1, and fell in the nightcap, 8-3.
In game one, Lady Ram starting pitcher,
Maria Morones (2-4), struggled on the mound. The freshman went five
innings, allowing 11 runs on 13 hits while walking three batters.
Junior Danah Merck led Texas Wesleyan,
going 1-for-3 with a double and producing the team's only RBI..
A grand slam by Lady Pioneer, Jennifer Collins in the bottom of
the fifth inning ended the game as the Lady Rams (8-7) dropped the
opening game.
In game two, freshman Tara Sharp (2-1)
pitched 5.2 innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits while striking
out six batters. Junior Kristin DiFrancesco came on in relief with
two out and two on in the bottom of the sixth and ended the Lady
Pioneer threat.
Sophomore Michelle Perez's RBI-single up
the middle in the top of the fourth inning gave the Lady Rams their
first and only lead of the game, but it wasn't enough as the Lady
Pioneers (16-3) scored six runs in the last two innings to finish
off the doubleheader sweep.
The Lady Rams will be back in action Monday,
when the travel to take on St. Edward's in Austin. The doubleheader
is scheduled for 1 p.m.
