Three Lady Rams named to all-conference team
March 9, 2004

2003-04 RRAC Women's All-Conference Team

     FORT WORTH, Texas -
Senior Ashley Walker was named to the Red River Athletic Conference first-team on Tuesday. Junior Kashae Townsend and sophomore Shanwdrika Courtney both were named to the second team by conference coaches.

Walker, who led the Lady Rams, averaging 12.7 points per game, is the first Texas Wesleyan player to make the first-team all-conference since Liz Landry did it in the 2000-01 season. The Bryan, Texas native, also averaged 8.4 rebounds per game and scored in double figures in 18 games. The senior tallied nine double-doubles on the season and scored in double figures in 18-of-23 games down the stretch. She was named RRAC Player of the Week four times this year.

"Ashley had a great year for us," head coach Stacy Francis said. "She led by example and will be definitely missed next season."

Townsend led Texas Wesleyan averaging 8.8 rebounds per game. She scored in double figures in 14 games this season and had double-digit rebounds in 11 games this season. The Hillsboro, Texas native also had six double-doubles on the year. She was named RRAC Player of the Week one time this season.

"Kashae was a player who gave her all every game," Francis said. "It made everyone else work harder. We look for her to continue her success next season."

Courtney was second on the team averaging 10.2 points per game and third in rebounding, averaging 6.3 boards per game. The Euless, Texas native, had two double-doubles and four games with three or more blocks. The 5-9 forward also scored in double figures in 11 games this season.

"Shawndrika has determination and a work ethic second to none," Francis said. "She brings the best out of all of our players. She will be a real asset to next year's team."

All three of the Lady Rams' all-conference selections were post players.

"The post was definitely our strength this year and is something that we really stressed all season long," Francis said. "The rotation of theses three ladies worked well against opponents."
