WORTH, Texas - Junior Johnna Flemmons scored 17 points, pulled down five rebounds
and dished out five assists to lead Texas Wesleyan past Bacone College, 70-45,
Saturday evening in Red River Conference play.
Flemmons
hit two treys and was 7-of-9 from the charity stripe as Texas Wesleyan (19-9,
15-6 RRAC) won its seventh straight victory.
Texas
Wesleyan jumped out to an early 9-2 lead, as senior Ashley Walker scored four
points and junior LaRhonda Hunter chipped in with a trey.
The
Lady Rams closed out the half on a 22-14 the rest of the half to take a 31-16
lead at halftime. Flemmons led all scorers with eight points at the intermission.
In
the second half, the Lady Rams would increased its lead to as much as 28 points,
taking a 70-42 lead with 41 seconds remaining. Flemmons scored nine points in
the second period.
Texas Wesleyan shot 42
percent (25-60) from the floor and 71 percent (10-14) from the free-throw line.
The Lady Rams also shot 59 percent (10-17) from behind the three-point line.
Bacone
College shot 40 percent (18-45) from the field and 47 percent (7-15) from the
charity stripe. The Lady Warriors also shot 15 percent (2-13) from behind the
arc.
Jessica Monroe led Bacone College (7-20,
5-15 RRAC) with 16 points, while Shanna Campbell scored seven points and pulled
down a team-high nine rebounds.
Texas Wesleyan
outrebounded the Lady Warriors, 38-34.
The
Lady Rams will be back in action Monday when they take on conference-rival Langston
at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. Texas Wesleyan will
be playing the Lady Lions for second place in conference.
