Rams can't shake cold start, fall to Jarvis Christian, 68-61

     FORT WORTH, Texas - Texas Wesleyan wasted a 24-point and 10-rebound performance from junior Joey Gladney, as the Rams fell to Jarvis Christian, 68-61, Thursday evening at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium.

     Jarvis Christian (13-11, 10-7 RRAC) outrebounded Texas Wesleyan, 45-33, and held the Rams to 33 percent shooting for the game. Texas Wesleyan only shot 24 percent in the first half.

     The Bulldogs jumped out to a 15-point lead, at 29-14, with 6:48 remaining in the opening period. Jarvis Christian took advantage of Ram senior David Johnson's early foul trouble. Johnson picked up his third foul at the 10:37 of the mark. Without his inside presence, forward Frank Corbett went to work, scoring 20 points in the first half.

     However, down 18 points with 3:43 remaining in the first half, Texas Wesleyan went on a 10-0 run to close out the half and cut the lead to 36-28 at the break.

     In the second half, Texas Wesleyan cut the lead to 47-44, at the 11:56 mark of the second half. Gladney posted six points during the stretch and sophomore Brad Schilder added three free throws.

     Jarvis Christian increased the lead to 57-44, with 7:58 left in the game and coasted down the stretch, as Patrick Daniels had four points to close out the game.

     Haynes scored 14 points and pulled down nine boards. The Hammond, La. native, also dished out four assists on the evening. Schilder led Texas Wesleyan with five assists.

     Texas Wesleyan shot 65 percent (20-31) from the charity stripe and 24 percent (5-21) from behind the arc.

     Jarvis Christian shot 45 percent (25-56) from the field and 61 percent (11-18) from the free-throw line. The Bulldogs also shot a blistering 47 percent (7-15) from the three-point line.

     Corbett led the Bulldogs with 23 points and pulled down a team-high, nine rebounds. Demarion Crite added 14 points while James Woodson dished out a team-high four assists.

     Texas Wesleyan will be back in action Saturday when they travel to take on conference-rival Texas College at 7:30 p.m., at John Tyler High School in Tyler, Texas.
