MUSKOGEE, Okla.- Freshman Christian
Villasenor's goal in the 80th minute completed the Texas Wesleyan
comeback as they tied Bacone College, 4-4, in Red River Conference
play.
Texas Wesleyan (8-5-1, 3-1-1 RRAC) opened
the scoring in the 18th minute when sophomore Rene Mercado scored
on a penalty kick.
Things then went sour for the Rams as Bacone
(4-6-3, 2-1-1 RRAC) scored four unanswered goals before the halftime
whistle.
In the second half the Rams got things
going once again when sophomore Ricky Gallardo scored on a breakaway.
Mercado picked up the assist on the play for his eighth assist for
the season.
In the 71st minute Gallardo sent a shot
in on the Warrior keeper who couldn't handle the shot and freshman
Brad Eagan was there to tap it in the goal to cut the lead to 4-3.
Villasenor tied the game in the 80th minute
when he sent a bending corner kick into the back of the net to knot
it at 4-4.
Both teams were unable to muster any real
scoring chances in the extra periods.
"I am very proud of our guys for never
giving up," head coach Steve Jones said. "To come away
with a tie on the road after a brutal start says something about
this team."
Texas Wesleyan returns to action Thursday
when they travel to take on Oklahoma Christian at 7 p.m.
