FORT WORTH, Texas - Texas
Wesleyan goalkeeper Steven Deering was selected player of the week
by the Red River Athletic Conference Tuesday morning.
Deering, a native of Highland Village,
Texas, posted a pair of shutouts with 180 minutes in goal last week
for the Rams, which moved to 3-0 in the conference play and 8-4
overall on the season. The freshman was perfect as Texas Wesleyan
set a team record with 23 goals against Dallas Christian College.
He followed with four saves in a 3-0 defeat of CSW. Deering has
now posted five shutouts this season with a goal against average
of 1.42 per game.
"Steven has a lot of responsibility
in goal this season," head coach Steve Jones said. "He
is young but is showing a lot of leadership on defense. He has made
some spectacular saves this season."
The Rams will be back in action Saturday,
when they host Texas A&M-International at 3 p.m. Both teams
sit tied atop the Red River Conference with perfect 3-0 records.
