FORT WORTH, Texas. - Freshman
forward Christian Villasenor continues to score at will this season,
tallying two goals to lead Texas Wesleyan past College of the Southwest,
3-0, in a Red River Conference match up Saturday afternoon at Martin
Field.
Texas Wesleyan (8-4, 3-0 RRAC) opened the
scoring in the 22nd minute when sophomore Rene Mercado scored his
ninth goal of the season on a long pass from Ram goalkeeper Steven
Deering to put the home team up, 1-0.
In the second half, Villasenor took over,
scoring in both the 70th and 76th minute to cap off the scoring
and push his season total to 15 goals.
Deering may have saved the game as he made
two point-blank saves in the first few minutes. The freshman from
Highland Village, Texas made four saves on the day, but every one
proved to be crucial as he picked up his fifth shutout for the season.
Texas Wesleyan returns to action Saturday,
Oct. 11 when they host conference-foe Texas A&M International
at 3 p.m. Both teams are tied for first place in the Red River Conference.
