FORT WORTH, Texas - Freshman Christian
Villasenor scored three goals and sophomore Nathan Mutchler added
three assists to lead Texas Wesleyan past Wiley College, 5-1, Saturday
afternoon in Red River Athletic Conference action at Martin Field.
"The guys played well today,"
head coach Steve Jones said. "Our offense was in full gear
and we finished well. Both the defense and the offense had great
games."
Texas Wesleyan (5-2, 2-0 RRAC) scored two
quick goals in the first half. Sophomore Jose Melendez put the Rams
on the board with a one-timer from 18 yards out in the fourth minute.
Sophomore Rene Mercado assisted on the play. Villasenor scored the
first of his three goals in the 10th minute on an assist from Mutchler
to put the Rams ahead, 2-0 at halftime.
Wiley (1-1-2, 0-1 RRAC) got on the board
in the 60th minute when Francois Brown scored to cut the Ram lead
to 2-1.
The Rams would close the game out on a
goal from Mercado and two from Villasenor for the final margin.
The Rams will be back in action Tuesday,
when they host Mary-Hardin Baylor at 5 p.m.
