Rams Top Paul Quinn
April 22, 2003

FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas Wesleyan ripped Red River Conference rival Paul Quinn College on Tuesday afternoon for 20 runs on 19 hits in a lopsided victory for the Rams. Daniel Faulkner pitched five solid innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits. Eric Vaughn and Eric Casias each pitched one scoreless innings for the Rams, who won by the final of 20-2.

On offense, the Rams did the bulk of their damage in the fifth inning, in which the first 11 runnners reached base safely. Wesleyan scored a total of 13 runs in the frame, pounding out 14 hits, including triples by Derek Armstrong and Anthony Bolivar, and doubles by Billy Eaton, and Cody Henderson. Bolivar added a single in the inning, and knocked in a total of four runs.

The Rams scored in each of the first four innings as well. In the first, consecutive singles by Nathan Murrell and Bolivar, and a walk by Matt Putman loaded the bases with no outs, but the Rams managed only one run, and that was scored on an infield error.
In the second, Cole Henry led off witha single, moved to second on an error and then to third on Armstrong's fly to right. Travis Clifford brought him home with a sacrifice fly.

In the third, Murrell again led off with a single, Bolivar reached on an error and Ellis walked to load the bases. A balk brought home Murrell, and after Eaton was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Henry's sacrifice fly gave the Rams another run.

In the fourth, Murrell's third hit of the day started a two-out rally, which was kept alive by Bolivar's walk and capped by Putman's RBI double.

The Tigers scored single runs in the second and third innings. In the second, a two-out error by Bolivar at short put a runner on base, and a throwing error by Armstrong later in the inning allowed him to score. In the third, Paul Quinn led off with a walk, and the runner scored two outs later on back -to-back singles.

The Rams improve to 35-19-1 on the year, 18-10 in the Red River Conference. Wednesday's doubleheader against the Tigers has been rescheduled due to the weather. The game will now be played on Thursday at 3:00 PM at the Rams' practice facility in Sycamore Park.
