AUSTIN, Texas - After losing Fridays
series-opening game 8-4, the Texas Wesleyan baseball team swept
Saturdays doubleheader in convincing fashion, defeating
Huston Tillotson 9-1 and 10-4. Wesleyan now stands at 21-18-1 on
the season, and 9-9 in Red River Conference play.
Game 1: Andy Hughes had a rare tough
day on the mound for Wesleyan, giving up eight runs on 14 hits as
Huston Tillotson scored early and often. On offense, Wesleyan
pounded out 13 hits, but could only push across four runs. Billy
Eaton doubled and tripled, Cole Henry added a triple and Travis
Clifford hit a home run, but Huston Tillotson scored twice in each
of the first two innings, once in the third, and three times in
the fifth to clinch the win.
Game 2: Shea Harrison got the call to
start Saturdays first game and provided just what the Rams
needed. He threw a complete game four-hitter, needing just 69
pitches to get through all seven innings. The Ram offense also
showed dramatic and immediate improvement from the day before,
posting seven runs in the first inning. Andy Hughes doubled and
Nathan Murrell went deep for two of Wesleyans 13 hits, and
the Rams won easily, 9-1.
Game 3: Billy Eaton and Derek Armstrong
both hit home runs, as Wesleyan scored a pair of runs in each of
the first five innings, cruising to a 10-4 victory. Brad Shiller
got the start and pitched well in his three innings. Eric Casias
and Seth Manning each chipped in to limit Huston Tillotson to
seven hits in the game. The Rams, who had nine hits in the game,
were helped out by three Huston Tillotson errors.
