Barrilleaux Named RRAC Pitcher of the Week, Shares Player of the Week Honors
April 1, 2003

FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas Wesleyan senior outfielder Monica Barrilleaux was honored by the Red River Athletic Conference on Tuesday as both the Pitcher of the Week and the Co-Player of the Week for March 24-30. It is her first award as a pitcher and second as a player. She was also named Player of the Week on March 11, the first time the award was given this season.

Barrilleaux, a Duncanville native, led Wesleyan to three wins in four games this week, batting .692 with two doubles, two home runs, and five RBI. She went 5-6 with a double and a homer in the Lady Rams’ doubleheader sweep against LeTourneau University (TX) on March 26, then batted 4-7 with another homer and two more RBI as Wesleyan split a conference doubleheader against Bacone on March 28.

She also collected two wins in two starts on the week, throwing a complete game two-hitter to defeat LeTourneau 9-1, then pitching eight strong innings to defeat Bacone 5-4. She walked one on the week while striking out eight, and did not allow an earned run in either of her starts.

Barrilleaux, a 2002 USCAA All-American, currently ranks 8th in the conference in batting with a .354 average. She is second in homers (3), tied for third in runs scored (16), fourth in hits (23), and tied for eighth in RBI (10). She also leads the conference with three triples.
