FORT WORTH, Texas Anthony Bolivars
third-inning double got the Rams on the board, Aaron Ellis
two-bagger an inning later tied it at three, and Billy Eatons
RBI double in the sixth capped the scoring as Wesleyan came back
from a 3-0 deficit to defeat McMurry University 5-3 at LaGrave
Field on Tuesday evening.
The Indians drew first blood, scoring all three
of their runs in the third inning. Jason Gotcher led off with a
single, moved to second on a wild pitch, and then to third on a
ground out by Chris Manley. He scored moments later on a sacrifice
fly by McMurry leadoff hitter Sam Ingram. Wesleyan starter Daniel
Faulkner then hit a batter, gave up a single to DH Josh Lee, and
walked three consecutive hitters to force in two more runs.
Faulkner was relieved by Brad Shiller, who struck out the next
batter to end the inning.
The Rams got one back in the bottom of the
third. Ellis singled to start the inning, but was erased on Billy
Eatons fielders choice. Bolivar followed with his
double, plating Eaton to cut the lead to two.
An inning later, the Rams tied it up. After
Trey Combs and Matt Putman singled with one out, Eric Casias
brought home a run with a sac fly and Ellis powered in another
with a drive to the gap in left-center.
Combs added an RBI in the fifth on a fielders
choice, plating Bolivar who walked and went to third on an Andy
Hughes single.
The Rams capped the scoring in the sixth.
Casias and Ellis hit back-to-back one-out singles, and Eaton
doubled, scoring Casias from third.
David Hinson picked up the win in relief for
Wesleyan, allowing one hit in two shutout innings. Indians
starter Greg Erickson took the loss, allowing four runs on ten
hits in six innings of work. Ellis led the Rams offensively, going
4-4 with a double and one RBI.
The Rams get back to .500 for the season,
improving their record to 11-11-1. They remain 5-4 in Red River
Conference play. Wesleyan returns to action on Thursday, hosting a
split doubleheader against the University of Wisconsin-Plattville
and St. Marys University of Minnesota. First pitch is at
1:00 PM at LaGrave Field. |
