FORT WORTH, Texas - The Lady Ram softball team
improved their season record to 8-11 by winning both games of a
Monday doubleheader with Hillsdale Baptist College.
Game 1: Amanda Kashuba pitched a
complete-game two-hit shutout, striking out nine and walking
three, to lead the Lady Rams past the Lady Saints, 8-0. Christi
Mize powered the offense, going two for two with a double, two
RBI, and two runs scored. Monica Barrilleaux added two RBI, and
Kashuba, Jennifer Perez and Danah Merck each knocked in one run.
Kashuba and Shannon Gower each went 2-3, and Staci Fritz added a
double. The Lady Rams, who connected for 12 hits in the game,
scored all eight runs in the third inning.
Game 2: Cynthia Obsivac went the
distance for Wesleyan, allowing three runs (one earned) on nine
hits. She struck out six and didnt walk a batter to win her
second game of the year.
Hillsdale got on the board first, scoring on a
ground out in the third inning. The Lady Rams, though, came right
to take a 7-1 lead in the bottom of the frame. Shannon Gower
doubled home two runs and eventually scored by stealing home as
part of a double-steal. Kamie Lancaster plated another two runs
with a single, and was on base for Amanda Kashubas two-run
homer.
The Lady Saints scored two unearned runs in the
fifth on a two-out homer, and Wesleyan capped the scoring in the
bottom of the fifth when Jennifer Perez came home on Kashubas
double.
Several Lady Rams had outstanding offensive
performances on the day. Kashuba finished 4-6 at the plate with a
double, a homer, two runs scored and four RBI. Gower went 5-7 with
two doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI, and Lancaster finished
3-5 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI.
The Lady Rams return to action this weekend,
traveling to Oklahoma to participate in the Southwest Regional
Shootout.
