Fort Worth Texas Wesleyan University
student-athletes Jessica Carrion (womens soccer), Leighann
Krey (volleyball), and Travis Mauldin (mens soccer) have
each been named Red River Conference Players of the Week. This is
Carrions second POW award in three weeks, and Krey and
Mauldin are honored for the first time this season.
Carrion, a freshman forward from Fort Worths
Western Hills high school, first received the Player of the Week
award on September 30. She scored all three goals in Wesleyans
3-1 victory over Louisiana College this past Friday, in the Lady
Rams only action of the week. She leads the conference in
goals (15), goals per game (1.25), points (32) and points per game
(2.67).
Krey, a senior outside hitter from Springtown,
Texas, lifted Wesleyan to a 1-1 week with 26 kills and averages of
3.8 and 3.7 kills per game in the two contests. She registered a
hitting percentage of .405 in a four-game loss to Texas Womens
University and .579 in Wesleyans victory against Bacone
College. She also collected 17 digs, including 13 in the first
match of the week. With 187 kills so far this season, Krey ranks
fourth in the conference.
Mauldin, a freshman forward from Midlothian,
has scored at least one goal in six consecutive games, a streak
that began on September 25 in a 2-1 overtime loss at UT-Tyler. The
Rams have gone 3-2 since that game. This past weekend, he scored
twice and had an assist in Wesleyans 7-1 victory over
Louisiana College on Friday, then added another goal as the Rams
defeated Wylie College 8-2 on Saturday. Travis currently ranks
among the top ten in the conference in both goals and points.
