Lady Rams Rip Texas College in Red River Conference Opener
September 5, 2002

In Wesleyan’s first-ever Red River Conference match, the Lady Rams volleyball team overpowered the Texas College Lady Steers, winning 3-0 in front of a home crowd of over 200 people. The match, also Wesleyan’s home opener, was never seriously in doubt.

Game one began with a service error by each team, tying the score at one. Wesleyan senior Leighann Krey then ripped three consecutive kills (plus two more in the next four points) as the Lady Rams pulled away. Sophomore Jocelyn Gaudi provided the exclamation point with a service ace to win the game 30-11.

Texas College began game the next game with two quick aces, but committed errors on the next three points to hand Wesleyan a 3-2 lead. Wesleyan won 10 of the next 15 points and eventually won the game 30-17.

Wesleyan jumped to 14-6 lead in game three, but the Lady Steers fought to get within 5 at 21-16. That was as close as they would come. A powerful crosscourt smash by Krey set the tone for the remainder of the game, as Wesleyan won 9 of the next 12 points to close out the game 30-19.

Krey led the Rams with 14 kills and Cortney Johansen produced 24 assists and 4 aces. Allyson Gaudi led the team with 13 digs, while Jocelyn Gaudi led with 5 aces and added 4 digs. Katherine Williams and Nicky Davis tallied 4 kills apiece, and Valen Little had 4 digs.
