RANGERS TOP RAMS
September 22, 2005

ALVA, OK:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (4-3) traveled to Alva, OK, on Thursday to take on a strong Northwest Oklahoma State team (5-3).  The contest featured the #2 and 3 teams in Region VI as the Lady Rams sat just behind the Rangers in the latest NAIA ratings.  Unfortunately the Rangers came out on top 2-0.

The Lady Rams are off to a strong start this season.  They began the campaign with wins over Prairie View A&M and Belhaven.  Oklahoma City and Texas Women’s then delivered tough losses, but Texas Wesleyan rebounded with impressive wins over UT-Tyler and Texas A&M International.  That 4-2 start put Texas Wesleyan in the 3rd spot in Region VI.

On Thursday, NW Oklahoma State got an early goal in the 18th minute, and scored again just before halftime.  The Lady Rams were able to control the ball, but were unable to convert that into scoring opportunities.  The Rangers out shot the Rams 4-3.

“We controlled the ball in the middle of the field, but could not get it done in the box,” said Head Coach Steve Jones.  “They are a good team, and we had some defensive mistakes that cost us.  Offensively we did not take enough shots, but hopefully we can build off this as we move towards conference play.”

The Lady Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Manhattan Christian College.  That contest is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. in Manhattan, KS.
