FORT WORTH, Texas –
In a game that featured 35 runs, 44 hits, and lasted nearly three
and a half hours, Dallas Baptist defeated Texas Wesleyan 23-15.
Having finished conference
play earlier in the week, the Rams (32-18, 13-2 in RRAC) welcomed
the Patriots (22-20) to LaGrave Field for a return game. Dallas
Baptist had previously defeated Wesleyan 9-8 on February fifth.
In his shortest outing
of the season, starting pitcher Jason Hopson was rocked for 10 earned
runs on 12 hits in only four and two-thirds innings. The loss dropped
him to 6-2 on the year and raised his ERA to 3.20.
Right fielder Jason
Diaz led the Rams with three singles, a walk, two runs scored, and
four RBI. Junior Zach Archer tied a school record with six at-bats.
He finished the game with three singles and two RBI.
Down 11 runs in the
seventh and facing a run-rule loss, Wesleyan batters rallied for
four scores including a two RBI triple by second baseman Anthony
Bolivar. Confronted with a 13 run deficit in the bottom of the eighth
inning, the team again showed a never give up attitude as they scored
six runs on five hits. Head Coach Mike Jeffcoat used 20 players
in the game.
The series shifts
to Patriot Field for a doubleheader Saturday. First pitch is at
1 p.m. The Rams square off against #9 LSU-Shreveport Wednesday April
27th. The doubleheader gets started at 5 p.m. |
