Wesleyan Falls to Dallas Baptist in Wild One
April 22, 2004

Box Score

FORT WORTH, Texas – In a game that featured 35 runs, 44 hits, and lasted nearly three and a half hours, Dallas Baptist defeated Texas Wesleyan 23-15.

Having finished conference play earlier in the week, the Rams (32-18, 13-2 in RRAC) welcomed the Patriots (22-20) to LaGrave Field for a return game. Dallas Baptist had previously defeated Wesleyan 9-8 on February fifth.

In his shortest outing of the season, starting pitcher Jason Hopson was rocked for 10 earned runs on 12 hits in only four and two-thirds innings. The loss dropped him to 6-2 on the year and raised his ERA to 3.20.

Right fielder Jason Diaz led the Rams with three singles, a walk, two runs scored, and four RBI. Junior Zach Archer tied a school record with six at-bats. He finished the game with three singles and two RBI.

Down 11 runs in the seventh and facing a run-rule loss, Wesleyan batters rallied for four scores including a two RBI triple by second baseman Anthony Bolivar. Confronted with a 13 run deficit in the bottom of the eighth inning, the team again showed a never give up attitude as they scored six runs on five hits. Head Coach Mike Jeffcoat used 20 players in the game.

The series shifts to Patriot Field for a doubleheader Saturday. First pitch is at 1 p.m. The Rams square off against #9 LSU-Shreveport Wednesday April 27th. The doubleheader gets started at 5 p.m.
