Rams capture RRAC crown, finish
third in region

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Texas
Wesleyan University Wesleyan golf team captured its second straight
Red River Athletic Conference Golf Championship Tuesday afternoon
at the Quail Creek Golf and Country Club. The Rams also finished third
in the NAIA Region VI Tournament that ran concurrently.
Texas Wesleyan (294-303-313-910) distanced
themselves from the conference field after day one and ended up running
away with the title during the final round. Northwood (317-313-321-951)
finished in second place in conference play.
In the regional tournament the Rams finished
third. Host Oklahoma City University (290-295-302-887) finished first
and Oklahoma Christian (304-296-303-903) took home second place honors.
"We failed to execute the entire tournament,"
head coach Kevin Millikan said. "We have to play smart and save
shots in order to compete. We need to improve on these things if we
want to compete at Nationals."
Sophomore Scott Sikes (70-79-73-222) led
the Rams, finishing in fifth place. Senior Justin Ward (73-75-77-225)
also performed well, finishing in sixth place.
Also competing were junior Reino Deetlefs
(74-74-82-230) who finished in 13th place, sophomore Dan Hahn (77-75-81-233)
who finished tied for 15th and junior Blake Sullivan (77-80-83-240)
who finished tied for 36th.
Sikes , Ward and Deetlefs all were awarded
first-team all-conference, while Hahn and Sullivan were both named
second-team all-conference.
The Rams will likely be back in action when
it takes part in the 54th annual NAIA National Tournament which will
take place May 24-27, at the Prairie Highlands Golf Course in Olathe,
Kan.
