FORT WORTH, Texas - Sophomore
Rachel Lamont shutout Northwood to help Texas Wesleyan split with the Lady Knights
in Red River athletic Conference action Thursday afternoon.
Lamont
(7-5) picked up the victory scattering six hits, while walking two and striking
out four batters. Lamont has defeated the Lady Knights twice this season.
Texas
Wesleyan (23-16, 9-7 RRAC) got on the board with two runs in the third inning.
First baseman Brooke McNabb reached base on an error by the shortstop. The Northwood
pitcher then fielded a bunt from Tara Sharp and launched the ball into centerfield.
McNabb came all of the way around to score and Sharp took third base on the error.
Second baseman Jessica Bancroft golfed a pitch into left field to score Sharp
and put the Lady Rams ahead, 2-0.
The Lady
Rams tallied two more runs in the fourth inning. Designated player Marie Stone
led off the inning with a home run to left field to put Wesleyan ahead, 3-0. Shortstop
Vanessa Urteaga followed with a single and came around to score on a single by
Bancroft for the final margin, 4-0.
In game
two, Northwood scored five runs in the fourth inning. The Lady Knights pounded
out five hits and received two walks from Lady Ram pitchers.
The
Lady Rams could not solve Northwood's Kayla Maddox who went the distance, scattering
seven hits, while walking one and striking out four batters in seven innings of
work.
Devin Blew (7-6) suffered the loss
for the Lady Rams, allowing four runs on xx hits, while walking one and striking
out three batters in 3.2 innings of work.
Texas
Wesleyan will be back in action Saturday when they travel to take on conference-rival
Texas College. The doubleheader is set to begin at 2 p.m. in Tyler, Texas. The
Lady Rams swept the Lady Steers in Fort Worth earlier this season.
