OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Texas
Wesleyan golf team fired a final-round 297 to take home third place
Tuesday afternoon at the 2005 Sleep Inn & Suites Golf Classic.
The 54-hole tournament took place at River Oaks Country Club.
Texas Wesleyan (291-306-297-894) was tied
for third with Wayland Baptist heading into the final day, but the
Pioneers shot a final-round 297 to edge out the Rams for second
place. Host Oklahoma Christian (285-290-291-866) took home the championship
trophy.
"The course was pretty firm for both
rounds," head coach Kevin Millikan said. "We left a lot
of shots out on the golf course. We did rally on day two and shot
the third lowest round of the day. Hopefully, this final round will
give us some momentum going into regionals."
Junior Reino Deetlefs (72-78-70-220) finished
the tournament in eighth place. The one-under par 70 was tied for
the lowest round of the day.
"Reino played well in really tough
conditions," Millikan said. "There were some really excellent
players in the field and Reino performed well against them."
Also competing for the Rams were sophomore
Scott Sikes (73-76-75-224) who finished tied for 14th along with
sophomore Dan Hahn (73-76-76-225) and senior Justin Ward (73-75-77-225)

NAIA Region VI Championship. The 54-hole, two-day event will take
place at the Quail Creek Golf Club. The Rams finished third at last
