FORT WORTH, Texas - The
Texas Wesleyan golf team shot a six-under 282 to finish in third place at the
UST Texas Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon at Hawk's Creek Golf Club.
Texas Wesleyan (292-296-282-870) shot six-over
par for the tournament. The Rams had three players shoot under-par for the final
round, led by sophomore Scott Sikes (77-75-68-220) who shot a 32 on the back nine
of the final round on his way to being tied for 13th. The round included an eagle
and three birdies. Junior Reino Deetlefs (70-72-70-212) turned in another solid
round at two-under on the final day as he finished tied for third place. Sophomore
Dan Hahn (73-75-70-218) continued to play steady, firing a two-under par round
to finish tied for eighth. "I was pleased
with our final round result," head coach Kevin Millikan said. "We gave
up too many shots yesterday, that created a deficit that was too hard to make
up." Also competing for the Rams were
junior Blake Sullivan (78-74-74-226) who finished tied for 30th, and senior Justin
Ward (72-83-75-230) who finished tied for 40th. TCU
(285-291-281-857) finished in first place while Oklahoma Christian (284-292-282-858)
finished in second place. Oklahoma Christian's
Juan Lizarralde (69-72-68-209) finished in the top spot individually firing a
four-under par on the final day. "All
in all, the team played well and we hope that we can build off of this momentum
heading into next week," Millikan said. "I am extremely proud of Reino.
He made a very steady contribution this week and put himself into position to
win the tournament." The Rams will
be back in action on Monday when they began play in the Territory Classic, hosted
by Cameron University. The two-day event will take place at The Territory Golf
Club in Duncan, Okla.
