Score STEPHENVILLE, Texas -
Texas Wesleyan fell behind, 2-0, before storming back for a 5-2 victory over Tarleton
State Saturday morning.
Tarleton State (3-4)
got on the board early, scoring a run in the second inning. Amanda Smith scored
a perfectly executed double steal to put the TexAnns up 1-0.
The
TexAnns added another run in the fifth inning when Amy Braquet reached on a single,
stole second and scored on an error by Lady Ram centerfielder Tara Sharp to make
the score, 2-0.
Texas Wesleyan (1-0) fought
back with five runs in the top of the sixth inning. Shortstop Vanessa Urteaga
singled up the middle before Sharp singled to right, advancing the runner. Designated
Hitter Marie Stone singled to left center to score Urteaga, 2-1. Second baseman
Danah Merck singled up the middle to score Sharp, 2-2. Kasi Dobbs entered the
game in relief for starter AJ Bristow. With two runners on, catcher Amanda Milam
homered to left center, giving Texas Wesleyan the 5-2 victory.
Milam
led the Lady Rams going 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored, while Merck also
had two hits for Wesleyan.
Junior Devin Blew
(1-0) got the win for Texas Wesleyan after she pitched 7.0 innings, allowing two
runs on seven hits. She allowed two walks while striking out three.
Texas
Wesleyan will be back in action Tuesday when it hosts University of Science &
Arts (Okla.). The game has been moved to Crowley because of wet field conditions
at Sycamore Park. First-pitch is set for 1 p.m. Call the Texas Wesleyan Softball
