FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas Wesleyan
dropped their first home game of the year, losing to Concordia, 8-6 Saturday afternoon
at LaGrave Field. A six run sixth inning powered the Tornados (2-4) past the Rams. The
Rams (4-2) scored first, as they had in their previous five contests when Jason
Vaughn doubled in leadoff hitter Jason Diaz in the first inning. Vaughn led the
Rams attack, falling only a single shy of hitting for the cycle and scoring three
runs. His homerun in the seventh gave fans momentary thoughts of yet another come
from behind victory for the team. Texas
Wesleyan starter David Hinson pitched well through the first five innings before
getting roughed up by the Tornados lineup. Ram fielders Billie Hicks, Anthony
Bolivar, and Travis Clifford combined on two double plays in the early goings. Rain
showers threatened to delay the game, but instead coincided with the Tornados'
rally, forcing Rams pitchers Brandon Wilson and Hayden Lackey to enter the game
in less than ideal conditions. Zach
Archer followed up his excellent play in Friday's doubleheader with two singles
and a run scored. Tornados pitchers
Andrew Douglas and Austin Derrick combined for five strikeouts and only one walk
while inducing seven fly ball outs. Josh
Vander Hey failed to get on base for the first time this season. The
Rams play again Tuesday at LaGrave Field as they take on the Yellow Jackets of
Howard Payne University. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
