Ariz. - Sophomore Scott Sikes fired a two-under-par 70 to take individual
medalist honors at the Grand Canyon Fall Classic at Estrella Mountain Ranch Golf
Club Tuesday afternoon. "Scott played
great both days," head coach Kevin Millikan said. "This was his first
victory as a Ram and if he keeps going in the right direction he can win many
tournaments."
Sikes (69-68-70-207) finished
at nine-under-par and helped lead the Rams (295-286-289-870) to a fifth place
finish in the 18-team event that featured a field comprised predominately of NCAA
Division II teams. CSU-Bakersfield won the title with a score of 852, three strokes
better than runner-up Western Washington (855). "This
was a great showing for our team after a rough opening tournament last week,"
Millikan said. "We bounced back wonderfully and competed with some very good
teams at this tournament." Junior Reino
Deetlefs tied for 27th at 76-74-70-220, while senior Euan McIntosh tied for 41st
(75-73-76-224). Senior Justin Ward tied for 47th (75-72-79-226) and sophomore
