OKLAHOMA
CITY, Okla. - The Texas Wesleyan golf team shot a 595 Monday and is tied for
second place with SMU JV team after the opening day of the UC Ferguson Classic.
Texas Wesleyan (289-306-595) was in good shape
after the morning round finishing just two strokes back of tournament-host Oklahoma
City University. Junior All-American Reino
Deetlefs (68-76-144) led the charge by leading the tournament after the first
round at four-under par. Oklahoma City leads
the tournament by 20 strokes, firing a 575 on the day. The
Rams struggled in the afternoon round as all five participants fired rounds over
par. "We had an excellent start to
the season in the morning and the guys were really geared up," head coach
Kevin Millikan said. "I really can't explain what happened the second round.
I guess we just ran out of gas." Also
competing for Texas Wesleyan were senior Justin Ward (74-73-147), sophomore Scott
Sikes (73-76-149), junior Blake Sullivan (74-81-155) and sophomore Will Woodring
(79-82-161). Individual results were not
available after day one as play was halted due to darkness. The remaining teams
will finish Tuesday morning before the third round begins.
